The main partners of this project - vision education centers operating in four major Lithuanian cities - Kaunas, Klaipėda, Siauliai and Panevezys, will organize tactile postcard creation classes for children. The sessions will be led by specialists who will help children to make the postcards they create perceptible to the blind, tell them why it is important that the postcards have a clear relief, introduce children to Braille.
Children who have created postcards in each city will be involved in another, common creative task - the creation of the city calendar for 2016, and in the autumn exhibitions of works will be opened and the city calendar will be presented. From all the postcards created by the children participating in the project, the professional commission will select the 13 best works that will decorate the 2016 calendar "I see with my heart" in sight and in Braille. The Braille calendar is special in that both the sight and the blind can understand: its innovative technological solutions, compared to conventional Braille prints, achieve a height of embossing that allows the blind and partially sighted to understand more than just the calendar months, names, days, but also the outlines of the illustrations. As in the previous "I see with my heart" calendars, the new one provides for the printing of the Lithuanian alphabet in Braille, so that everyone can get acquainted with Braille and at least read their name by touch. Thanks to the calendar "I see with my heart", the blind have the opportunity to get acquainted with the usual arrangement of months and weeks of the paper calendar, and the sighted public is encouraged to pay attention to the problems of the visually impaired and to understand the life of the blind.
At the end of the project, it is planned to organize an official event to present the calendar to the public, together with the organization of the award ceremony and postcard exhibition of the authors of the children who participated in the project. Copies of the calendar issued with the project funds will be distributed free of charge to visually impaired people through the branches of the project partners - the Lithuanian Library for the Blind and the Lithuanian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired.
The project is partially funded by the Lithuanian Culture Council
